NE Washington, Idaho, NW Montana

A very yummy breakfast in Metaline Falls, which is a highly recommended alternate route instead of crossing over the Seattle Lights Dam, which is cool but which is prone to security issues, not to mention that there is no café there.

At the Idaho-Montana border

The beautiful Upper Priest River Valley, an old growth forest of western red cedars and western hemlocks. Note how open the forest is and how little undergrowth there is: the old growth trees are so dominant and the canopy is so thick that there is very little new growth.

The southern part of the Selkirk Range, which extends north from Idaho's Panhandle way up into Canada, where reportedly the range is even more impressive.

Lower Ball Lake

The Selkirk Crest from atop Long Mountain, with views of 7,670-foot Parker Peak on the far right.

A mountain goat in the Selkirks, where they are at home amongst all of the granite slabs and steep mountainsides.

The Kootenai River Valley south of Porthill on the descent from Parker Peak. This valley is one of the most productive non-irrigated agricultural areas in the West.
